The Small Things That Make Us

Growing up, we are taught many things. We are taught to work hard, do our best at all times and to keep trying. And while those teachings have good intention, they are taught in a vague manner and are often based on another's concept of value. What happens in practice is that, we often work harder than we are suppose to and for all the wrong reasons. Working hard ends up being less of a choice and more of an expectation. And by result we become one dimensional in nature. People end up only being good at their jobs and mediocre at everything else. We lose the ability to work hard in other aspects of our life. In keeping true to those teachings we lose out on a lot of what life has to offer. We end up becoming consumed by these lessons and as a result live a life that is lackluster at best. Our individual stories have no real end or purpose. And we have to ask ourselves "Why is that?" Why do we lose ourselves along the way?

My belief is that there are small things that we miss out on. Things that add real value to our lives. The things that make us happy on a day to day basis are tied to how we live our lives and the people we bring into them. These things make up 70 % of our life, perhaps even more than that, and we discount their importance. Then there are all these distractions that take us away from these small things. We are tricked into believing that the distractions are 70% of our life. Our lives are filled with things that occupy space both physically and emotionally that keep us external to our own being. We end up not knowing what we want and pursue things that make us miserable. When we look back we aren't happy and we second guess the decisions that we made.

The purpose of this blog is to show the importance of things that add real value in terms of creative thoughts and introspection. Instead of looking outward, most of the answers are deeply tucked away inside of us. And every time time we ignore those inner thoughts / feelings it adds another layer that we have to get through to find them the next time we look to inquire. We numb ourselves to the things we want and let others decide what we want. Therefore we need to get past this concept of letting other's define what happiness should be and start to mold our own individual versions of it.

There is more to understanding how we work as humans than we care to admit. A lot of life is centered around aimlessly following directions until people find themselves in a place they can no longer recognize. And when we are lost, those feelings that we repressed come to the surface. We start to ask ourselves the questions that I mentioned in the introduction. And it is perfectly okay to ask yourself that. It's a sign that there is something deeper inside of you that needs to come out. By focusing on smaller things we learn more about ourselves. We learn what we enjoy and hate. We learn better ways to communicate our thoughts and feelings. We learn about the direction we want to take our life.

In this blog, I am going to dive into topics from all aspects of life. I will introduce my perspective on different topics, my rationale and my argumentation for certain things. I will state explicitly when I don't know something instead of skipping around it. I am doing this in hopes that we live a life that is filled with more meaning than we currently are. This blog stems from the belief that the most important things in life are the small things.
